Key Stage 3

Topics for module 1: food hygiene; food safety; safety in the kitchen; safe use of the cooker; storing foods; equipment; cooking foods; safe use and types of knives;  safe use of specialist equipment.

Key Stage 4

Catering

WJEC exam board

60% controlled assessment:

  • 1st = May/June worth 20% final grade. Research dairy foods and cook 4 dishes showing good use of dairy foods.
  • 2nd = October - March worth 40% final grade. You have been asked to represent your school in a young chef competition. Cook a 2 course meal suitable for 2 people with special dietary needs.

These controlled tasks are research projects/written reports and a practical exam.

The examination paper (May) is worth 40% of the final grade.

Three short tasks in Year 10 all worth 10 % each. Guidance sheets: task 1, task 2 and task 3.

In Year 11 the controlled task is a child study worth 30% of the final grade.

The written exam is worth 40% of the final grade.
